First China Now Russia

A city in Russia has now decided that one video on YouTube has warranted the blocking of the whole site!

Instead of just blocking or regulating the video content on the site themselves they've chosen to block the entire YouTube site as well as four other websites: following in the footsteps of China, who recently had a very public spat with Google. There are now legal wrangles to try and overturn the decision.

Surely the whole point of the internet is freedom of information and freedom of speech. There will always be extremists who abuse this technology, but at least it is easier to keep track and monitor online rather than subverse culture?
