Is the Future of Search Shifting?

The recent announcement that Ask.com is pulling out of the search marketplace and will be dedicating all its resources to improving its Q&A service is possibly an indication that even established search engines are struggling to compete with Google and Bing .

Whilst Google has dominated the search market for the past 10 years , the advent of windows phone 7, pre-set with Bing as the default search engine is clearly going to make a difference; perhaps not immediately but anyone ignoring Bing does so at their peril.

By far the fastest growing search engine, Bing appears to attracting traffic away from Yahoo, Ask and the AOL network who are all losing market share.

Watch out for the New Kid

Anyone who has been following us on twitter will also be aware that whilst we are losing a stalwart in ASK, the search industry has also seen the birth of a new baby in the form of Blekko, the brainchild of Rich Skrenta (former CEO of DMOZ). Skrenta is actively targeting Google & Bing and while there is no evidence yet to indicate mainstream appeal it's still early days so watch out.
