Deep Linking Strategies
Reading the SEOmoz Blog earlier this week I was interested to see Everett Sizemore discussing Deep Linking into E-commerce product pages.
As Everett says, "there are tons of ways to build links into the home page or blog/article pages of an e-commerce website. But most e-commerce SEOs suffer from the same problem: It's not so easy getting links into categories or product detail pages".
This brings me neatly to my point!
When developing a link building strategy, you really have to consider what pages you want your inbound links to land on, far too many link building strategies rely on getting links to only the homepage. This strategy fails on two counts.
Firstly: The sub pages of your website will gain little or no PR Ranking
Secondly: Visitor Experience - If you do not deliver your visitor to an appropriate and relevant landing page you should expect a high bounce rate.
Try to get links to pages throughout your site, not just the homepage, I read with interest that there's loads of algorithms & other calculations, that back this up, I've spent months getting to grips with them, but is that really relevant?
NO! What you want to know is "what works best" - the short answer is that by obtaining a good range of links from a wide range of sites ranked PR1 - PR6 and getting these sites to link to different pages on your website WILL generate improved SEO.
