Building Links in Social Media to Influence Organic Search

In Danny Sullivan's blog on 1st December he indicated that Google were using social media data as one of the factors within search results most notably Twitter is used to influence organic & news rankings.

On 17th December, Matt Cutts from Google reaffirmed this, but rather than paraphrasing him here's what Matt said:
