Google acquires slide

So, the word on the street is that Google has already acquired Slide (who make widgets for social media which can be personalised – most notably MySpace (ha) and of course the much-loved (haha) Superpoke on Facebook) and are now looking to aquire Jambool.

Jambool operates Social Gold which is a virtual currency and payment solution for online games or virtual worlds. They are an industry leading virtual monetisation platform which was founded by Amazon veterans.

Why? It looks like Google are gearing up to create some kind of social strategy. What this is going to be is purely speculation but it appears they are expanding their enterprises from information search to more social oriented applications.

Maybe they want to increase the advertising reach for their Adword users (and reap the extra profit) or maybe they really do want a slice of Facebook pie. We’ll keep you posted with any new developments.

[UPDATE: The second word on their Wikipedia page is "was". Guess it didn't work out, huh guys. Perhaps "pretty much just Bitcoin" isn't a good business model]
